DPF Removal/Delete

Australian emission standards for modern diesel vehicles require fitment of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) in the exhaust.

 

Standards aim to deliver a huge reduction in diesel particulate (soot) emissions however as owners are finding out, the technology is not without its problems, with DPF failure and replacement common and coming at a huge expense.

 

There are a multitude of reasons why a DPF can fail, including:

  • High mileage and compacted with fine soot

  • Failed sensors preventing DPF regeneration

  • Lack of additive in fuel (where fitted) causing incomplete burn off

  • Engine issues i.e. leaking injector, valve stem oil seals, worn piston rings

  • DPF unable to regenerate due to driving conditions i.e. stop start traffic

  • Poor performance tuning

 

Another risk presented by the DPF system is the high temperatures required in order to complete the regeneration. This can cause damage not only to the DPF itself and its surrounding areas, but also produces enough heat to start a fire if the vehicle is driven through or parked in long grass- a serious danger if the vehicle is used on a farming property, remote locations or 4wd tracks.

EGR Removal/Delete

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve (EGR) is another control device designed to reduce emissions . They create a loop back from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold to recirculate burnt gases.  As the gases are constantly passing through, the soot causes a build up of carbon deposits around the valve, which can cause it to stick in position. An EGR valve that does not operate as it should due to carbon deposit build up can cause boost issues, huge reductions in power and poor fuel economy as well as total failure of the valve itself.
